Industry Veteran Kurt Bittner Joins Scrum.org as Vice President of Enterprise Solutions
Agile and Iterative Software Development Expert to Lead Enterprise-Level Professional Software Delivery Efforts
Boston – August 17, 2016 – Scrum.org, the mission-based organization dedicated to improving the profession of software delivery through training, certification assessments and community, today announced that Kurt Bittner, a leading expert on Agile and iterative software development approaches, has joined the company as vice president of enterprise solutions. In this role, Kurt is responsible for enterprise-level professional software delivery initiatives.
“Increasingly, organizations see software as the key for business success, but to do it well, development teams must be professional. Scrum.org, which focuses on professional Scrum through assessments and certification, training and licensed Professional Scrum Trainers, is developing enterprise initiatives to provide that organizational environment that enables multiple teams to work together more effectively,” explained Ken Schwaber, co-creator of Scrum and founder of Scrum.org. “Kurt brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new role, and will help us drive those initiatives for enterprises, which will enable organizations to adapt and thrive in this period of unprecedented challenge and opportunity.”
Kurt will work alongside Ken and others to evolve existing and create new ways for organizations to build environments that encourage and sustain scaling professional software delivery, and to drive a cohesive vision for Scrum.org on how enterprises can deliver greater value to themselves and their customers by delivering software in a professional way.
“As an industry analyst covering Agile and DevOps, Kurt has seen what leading organizations are doing to become agile, what works and what doesn’t,” noted Dave West, CEO / Product Owner, Scrum.org. “As Vice President of Enterprise Solutions, Kurt will continue to build upon that work, helping organizations embrace professional software delivery, collaborating closely with the Professional Scrum Trainer community to amplify their ability to help customers succeed through training and coaching.”
Bittner joins Scrum.org from Forrester Research, where he served as a Principal Analyst covering how enterprises are adopting Agile and DevOps practices to deliver business value faster and with higher quality. Prior to Forrester, Kurt served as CTO—Americas for the consulting firm Ivar Jacobson International, where he worked for more than six years guiding Fortune 100 companies in their Agile transformation journeys. Prior to that, he played a leadership role in IBM's Jazz Platform strategy, led requirements tool strategy and development for Rational Software, and led the early development of the Rational Unified Process. As a consultant, he has helped many hundreds of organizations improve the results achieved by their development teams. An accomplished public speaker, Kurt has presented at many conferences, and is the author of three books, including The Economics of Iterative Software Development, as well as numerous papers and articles.
“Software has evolved from merely supporting a business to being the core means by which industry leaders deliver value to their customers. Transitioning to this new model requires them to change not only processes and tools, it forces them to change the way their teams are formed and collaborate. It makes them pivot their cultures to become obsessively focused on customers, and to manage themselves using empirical data. I joined Scrum.org because of its leading position in advancing the profession of software delivery and helping organizations to become Agile,” said Bittner. “I am honored to join Ken Schwaber and Dave West, as well as the entire Scrum.org team and its expert community, to build on this foundation by extending Agile and Scrum further into enterprises.”
