What students say about RobertAbout Robert
Well, hello!
Thanks for checking out my profile! I’m Robb Pieper, a licensed Professional Scrum Trainer partnered with Scrum.org and founder of Responsive Advisors. We're a Chicago-based consulting firm specializing in agile transformations.
I’d love for you to get to know me a bit, so please read on.
I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself, my history, and how I became a Scrum.org Professional Scrum Trainer.
It all started when I was 13 years old and I got a commodore 64C for Christmas. I started learning to program the computer because I was trying to learn how video games were made. I didn’t get very far making video games, but it kicked off a lifelong passion for technology and digital arts.
Fast forward a decade and I found myself back to learning to program computers again after using computers to make electronic music. Then I went to school for electrical engineering and found a job as a robot and vision systems programmer for factory applications. It was cool stuff to work on!
After eight years as a professional software developer and finishing up a master’s in business administration, I was looking for a new challenge outside of building tech. So, I went to a Scrum class, and it changed my world! I found my passion in becoming a change agent for organizational agility. I decided to leave the programming world and joined a consulting firm as an agile consultant and trainer. In the process, I got a license to teach professional Scrum classes through Scrum.org. I grew up in music and always loved being on stage and I quickly discovered that I loved training classes for the same reason. Being a trainer was almost the same as being on stage with a band, just without the guitar.
While working for that consulting firm I saw all the ways that our practice was run differently than I would’ve liked. Ultimately, I decided to leave that company and start my own firm. The idea was that my new company would be born agile, not just something we added on as a side hustle. Everything about the company was meant to be lean, fast, and highly agile, just like i planned to teach my clients to do. We were to practice what we preach. I wanted us to be agile business advisors focused on creating superior business results by way of Scrum and other agile business techniques. Thus, the name “Responsive Advisors”.
Picking a trainer can be hard. Not only does a trainer need to know their stuff, but they also need to be interesting if you're going to stay away for a few days of training. If you’d like to see what I am like as a trainer, take a look at this video i made about troubleshooting broken Scrum implementations. And yes, I’m a bit of a class clown who became the teacher, so I hope you can appreciate my sense of humor! :)
At Responsive Advisors, our goal is to provide our clients with a holistic approach to business agility. We partner with our clients to help create a sustainable culture that is tuned to create fast, nimble and resilient organizations that can respond quickly to changing conditions.
